i wanna go fast

well... the thread was about max speeds on rangers, but i guess it counts:D

I don't even think my 97 2.3 will go fast enough to hit the rev limiter, I'd have to have a mighty stiff wind behind me!!! like a hurricane.

Do the manuals have a rev limiter? or a speed limiter?

Frank

yep they all have, and yeah u can make it hit the limiter

the Dodge and Chevy were by far the fastest/quickest.

Depends on what you're talking about, Ford, Chevy and Dodge all produced some sort of dog or another. :D

No clue how fast I've had mine, but I have had the speedometer buried once years ago almost to the trip reset - only reads up to 85. Modded 2.9L. Probably could have kept pushing, but these trucks aren't made for the speed.

Pete

91 ext. cab 4.0L 4x4 about 105mph
02 lightning 145 mph

152........in my camaro:icon_thumby:, about 70 in my 87 ranger 4x4 with bad ball joints

woooo bak from the dead didnt realize how old this thread was o well

ive hit 95 or so and yea my 2007 3.0 with 4.10s and stock tires and my tb front end it felt a little tipsy if i ever want to go over 90 again which i dont think i want to i am going to drop the truck and get wider tires hahaha i dont think the rangers are really ment for speed

Someone legally distinct from me got his Bronco II with a 4.0, 4.10s and 33s to 100MPH :fie:

i got my B2 up to 110 racing a civic.
205/75/15 and 3.73s
i think i had a tailwind.

In my ranger i hit 70mph, little scary with no sway bars and 36s!
When i had my '01 Lightning 145mph next to a vette!

I never go over the speed limit. But I do carry a flat shovel for those of you that do........

I have worked for 18 years as a volunteer for the Fire department. I have helped clean up way too many dumb kids brains off the pavement in that time. Slow the Fuuck down!

Well the worst I've done is hit the speed limiter on the LA3 turbocoupe computer, which is set at like 116 mph or something. That was in a 1990 ranger with a 2.3T, M5OD, 3.73's and 215/70R15 tires. The engine was at about 4200 rpms in 5th.

I only did it because I was stuck behind about a dozen cars on a 2-lane highway and nobody would pass and I was late and getting angry. I'll never do that again though. Old trucks were never designed to go that fast from the factory, let alone after they get 20 years and 200000 miles on 'em. Besides, I'm married now and it would not be fair to my wife to take that kind of needless risk.

'02 4.0 3:55 15 in stock tires. Governed at 92, reset to 255 with a programmer. Top speed to date: 116 still pulling good at 3,800 RPM when I caught up to traffic. Let off the gas and rolled up to traffic without ever hitting the brakes...

When I was young and stupid...

115 in my stock 2000 Ranger, 3.73 gears and 225/70/15 tires. Don't ask how I got past the governor. At least I was smart enough to back off when it started raining even though it had more to give.

90+ in an '89 F-350 dump - bored 460, HD-5-speed, 4.10 gears, stock tires.

100+ in a newish Monte Carlo.

My choptop doesn't like speeds over 60 mph. I guess balanced radials might let me go faster than ancient unbalanced bias plys.... *shrug*

I have very little desire to go flying around anymore. That said, I'm considering dropping a bored and rebuilt 460 (IIRC the guy said it's around a 490 or so now with higher compression heads) into a '94 F-350 dump....:3gears:
