It has been raining here a lot lately and I went out to my truck to head over to get some propane this morning and at first it wouldn't move so I gave it some more gas and then there was a loud clunk and it moved. I always set my parking brake when I park and I felt it go into reverse so when it happened it confused me so I let off the gas and double checked that I was in gear and the parking brake was off and it was. Thats when I gave it more gas and the clunk happened, anyone have any ideas to what is happening? It felt like the brake released suddenly but I don't know, It did get below freezing last night after it rained all day maybe that had something to do with it. Any info is greatly appreciated, thanks.

my brake cables need replacing and get sticky sometimes. and when i release it i have to give some gas for it to release the actual shoes. so it kinda clicks when i do it. check your cables if it gets real cold again after you release the brake

yeah its from them freezing up then letting go when you reverse i had the same problem with my truck before i did my shoes and cables are all that stuff inbetween i live in canada so iv seen that on lots of cars your better off not using you e-brake if its warm then gets cold but next time you do your rear brakes buy some dry graphite lube and lube up your cables in their housings by pouring some in and working it in then repeat this stuff is golden!

Mine did the very same thing this morning. It was sleeting and 20 degrees. I think moisture got in there and froze the drum.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I just had the drums turned awhile back but the shoes still had some life. I didn't think it was the tranny, thanks again:)
