so i have an 89 ranger super cab xlt. when i first got it the heater blower motor worked fine. then one day i was driving it with the blower turned up and i started smelling this smell like hot brakes or burning wiring. then smoke rolled out the heater vents and since then the heater has not worked. any ideals what happened. the smoke and all is telling me i probably had a short in the wiring somewhere and it burnt just a little and now there is no power to the blower motor. What do you guys think i should look for first. Its dipping to negitive double digits out and a heater would really be nice. thanks guys.

No power at all?

Try and locate the blower motor resistor on the heater box, i know i had only high work on my truck, replaced it and also had to replace a section of the wire since it was melted and burnt, worth checking, not sure if it is the prob or not tho,

yea its like there is no juice getting to the blower motor. i crank the knob and nothing happens, the burnt smell and smoke make me think of burnt shorted wiring somewhere. any ideal where the resistor would be.

well i pulled the resitor out and it looked to be ok. all the wires were intact and everything and i cant seem to find any obvious burnt wiring but i can hardly see any of it. so any ideals im afraid when i get home next week i might just have to pull the whole dash out and figure out what the heck is going on.

I think in your truck the blower control switch has the relay in it( in my truck the relay is in the power distribution box) if you have no power to the blower I bet you need a new switch,

well i talked to my dad this morning and he said to check the blower motor to see if it was stuck

In your first post you said "no power to the blower motor" did you test it to see that there was no power. Maybe the blower is bad but I would concentrate on figuring out how to get power to the BM

I reread your posts and you said the burning smell started to come out of the vents so it prob is the bm and it blew a fuse and that is why you have no power at the BM now

yea i was just explaining that it blew smoke than now blower motor like it fried wiring to it or something but the bm burning up seems logical so if it ever warms up to above 0 ill pull it out and see if it is stuck. and put my dash back together lol
