Recently I have been debating on whether or not to sas my truck. I just dont know if its beyond my ability. i am going to have to put axles under it soon anyway so shojld I just sas or throw a 35/8.8 in there. So more or less what are your opinions?:icon_confused:
 
D35 would certainly be easier and cheaper.

More options available with the solid though.

I am going with the D35 for now just 'cause it's easier. I would ditch the snowplow for a solid in a heartbeat though if installation was more comparable.
 
look at disciplerocks b2 and legoms mazda.. they are on the d35/8.8 and they are pretty hard on their trucks... and they work. the d35/8.8 is bolt in and plenty strong. and a lot cheaper, trust me... i priced a sas. i was planning on doing a d30 jeep axle and the ford 8.8.. the d30 would have been strong enough for me. but i have about half the money in my d35 ttb stuff then i would have for a sas..

i have xj coils, super runner steering, good brackets, f250 shock towers, and so on.......



i would do the d35/8.8 unless you plan on some major stuff that the d35 won't handle it... you can do a leaf sas pretty cheap... but.. what are the plans for your truck? think of the final plans for your truck and build it
 
D35 up front and keep the 7.5 unless your planing on doing somthing realy extream. i run that combo on my b2 and have not had any issues with the 7.5 and very few issues with the D35. and i run 35" tire, im fully locked up, and compete with my b2.
 
If u are only goin to run a 35 or under go with a d 35 and keep the 7.5 unless u get a deal for a matching gear set d 35-8.8 Sas is alot of time and money and research alot of research Plus a d 35 will drive down the road better like the your truck rides now but put a sas under it and it will ride like a truck u will feel every bump in the road but that is my opinion
 
i've got maybe $400 into my D35. that's lift brackets, lift coils, new u joints, the price of the D35, new calipers, new pads, a seperate D35 chunk with 3.73 gears that i bought after i initially bought my d35.

if i start having problems i'll SAS, but i'm not planning on beating on my b2 too hard.
 
Thanks for your input guys. I guess I just want my truck off-road worthy again.I don't really have the money shell out for parts that get broke because of whatever reason. But I plan to run 33's but 35's could weasel there way onto the truck. Also I wanna put lockers and stuff in them too but I didn't know if it would be the same price wise.
 
IMO it sounds like a d35 set up right will be fine for you.

like i mentioned above. xj coils, superrunner steering, longer shocks.. etc.
 
Also you guys think that those axles will hold up to a v8?

depends on your throttle control....
but in that case, IMO... if you invest in the v8 i would invest in one tons.


however, i still think that the axles could stand up to v8's. you could always do those stronger u-joints in the axles.

The weakspot of the D35 is the same as the D44 that they put in '150's... the axleshaft u-joint.

31 spline 8.8's went in 302/351 half tons originally as well, they still live on in many of the lighter F-150's today.

One thing to keep in mind also, a Ranger is much lighter than a half ton.
 
It all depends how you drive. I have broken axleshafts u joints and even the carrier bearing caps in my d35 and i have a tired 2.8 and 33's. do you plan to hit real hardcore trails or do you just want 4 wheel drive for muddy roads and bad weather?
 
Well I don't really drive that hard but I do have a tendency to blow out the cob webs every now and then.

The 35 and 8.8 would be fine with the v8. Bigger is not always better.
But, you may want to upgrade the axles.
 
I do want to put lockers and 4.56s in it. Or do you mean like a d44/9"
