I recently did a wheel and tire trade and when I took the wheels off, the hub selector plates just sort of fell back without anything holding them on (I told myself, "That doesn't seem right..." lol). I put it all back together with the new wheels/tires for now. But I can't get the hubs locked for the life of me. I don't know anything about servicing hubs and have never taken them apart I have no idea whats going on in there. I'm pretty sure its normal the selector springs open when u select Free but it stops before LOCK and won't go into position. What's wrong with these hubs? Or is it something I'm doing? I want to get 4x4 working by the end of this month. Any help would be greatly appreciated

If these hubs are gone will it matter after I swap the solid axle (D30 welded). I'll need to get new hubs anyways correct?

It's fairly normal for the hublock to fall off with the wheel. There isn't really anything but the wheel that retains it.

As for your inop condition, sounds like you didn't get it back on quite right. Take them back off, unlock them, and put them back on, turning them (pull it back off and move it one hole to the :insert direction here: until it sits up flush to the hub with no resistance) and put the wheels back on.

Lastly, look closely at that welded up D30. She is a live axle, no hub locks. Have fun driving that on the road.
