In America they put ethanol in the fuel and it was supposed to help bring down the cost of petrol but it didn't, and it made vehicles that weren't equipped for it and made to run on it like the 3.0 flex fuel for example get crap gas mileage. Whats the point?? :icon_confused:

it makes the hippie tree huggers feel all warm and fuzzy inside thinking we can run our cars on corn liquor. the same reason that we put all the smog control on our cars that kills the gas mileage, because it is politically correct.

id run that stuff in my 4.0 if i could.. maybe one tank just to give it a try.. i do wonder though if it has gelling issues..

but really though i hate that damn 10% blend crap we have here

The main reason was not to lower gasoline prices (why would they?). It was to improve emission ratings. I know the E10 fuel is crap, unless your vehicle is designed to handle E85 fuel. Those CA rated lawn mowers barely run it. And most carbed engines need a re-jetting to add extra fuel. With my Ranger, I know I see a good 1 mpg loss. Use to get 22~23 mpg. Now its more like 20~21 mpg.

In theory E10 produces less carbon dioxide than straight gas when used as a fuel. The problem with that theory is the amount of carbon made during the fermenting process used to make the fuel vs refining crude into gas.

It is true that if you take a gallon of gas and a gallon of E-10 and just set fire to them the E-10 would produce less carbon.

This is all a scam...Our gov. let's us get f***** up the A*** with this crap. I helped protect these sheet wearing sons of biscuit eaters when I was in Saudi and Egypt and Afganistan. They come over to you and thank you and then as you leave to go to another country they jack up the oil again and curse and your father......I say we just take over Saudi and Afghanistan and take what is rightfully ours!!!!! Towel wearing Coc* Suc****........Ahhhhhh....don't get a former Special Ops commando going, Boys and Girls!!!!! AHHHHHHHH

and be sure to tell all the tree-hugging politically correct I know what's better than you freaks,,,,with 105 Octane, IT'S A DAMN GOOD RACING FUEL!!!!!!!!

WORKS GREAT IN HI COMPRESSION ENGINES!!!!!!!
still lousy mileage, but hell, who cares when you can run 12.5 : 1 compression (or turbos, or superchargers) and have absolutely no spark knock :icon_rofl::icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

Ethanol is lower cost for the fuel suppliers not us. ANd it helps keep the local farmers in business. Its 10% less efficient than gasoline. And cost us just as much but saves the oil companies alot of money in the 10-20 yr window.

if i want racing fuel i can go up the road to sunoco and buy 118 octane. lets face reality who here needs 105 in their dd? id say nobody. who here would like their truck to be more fuel efficent by using gas instead of gasahol? id say everybody would like that.

It still cost the gas stations more in overhead, The nozzles and breakaways fail more often with ethanol and they have to change filters more often.

They're still getting kickbacks from the gov't too

The ethanol gas has dropped my mileage by 2 mpg. When running a/t or street tires, I normally get 20 mpg. Now I'm averaging 18 mpg.

Thankfully the gas station, just down the road, has started selling ethanol free gas.:headbang:

Using corn to fuel our vehicles also makes the price of food go up.
As far as saving money, it's about a wash. Even Consumer Reports says that while E-85 costs less your mpg goes down, so you don't really save any money.
They don't sell E-85 where I live anyway.

It was actually used as an additive, similar to lead, but not as lethal.

essentially, lead's replacement in fuel.

Here in new mexico I am pretty sure it is added to all fuel during the winter months. Or its the other way around in the summer. I know almost every gas that I put in ays it on the pump.

No, ethanol is not lead's replacement. It might help reduce detonation but that's a side effect. I think the things originally added to replace lead were ether-based. As people have said it is used to make more complete combustion as it carries oxygen in it, and supposedly replace some oil dependancy.
