Hey guys. Someone emailed me wanting to know how to tell if their newer 2WD Ranger is a coil sprung or torsion bar front suspension. You know how hard that is to explain with just words??

Can you guys post up some pics of both styles of front suspension. Side shots, front shots and rear shots.

Thanks. :icon_thumby:

Here is the best side shot of my truck.

I think he meant just the suspension...

More specifically a shot of the wheel well with the tire off.

Well, coil springs are shaped like coils and torsion bars are shaped like bars so.........

no:icon_confused:.

Maybe, but you can nicely see the T-bar in that pic.

Ok, now that I'm doing being a smart-aleck, here is a reply that I hope is helpful. These are diagramatic, not photos, but they do clearly show the difference between coils and t-bars.

I've never seen a Ranger T-bar suspension. Where is it?

Edit: lemme re-phrase this,

I know where a Torsion bar is because I've been around truck's long enough.

BUT, this other person does not. That picture is like a "Where's Waldo?" only the poor person doesn't know what Waldo looks like. OR "somewhere in this picture is part of a torsion bar, guess where it is". It doesn't help anyone. Especially someone who doesn't know the difference between a coil spring and a torsion bar. (yeah, we're talking about a total newb here)

Don't mess around with truck pictures.

Get a clear picture, with the wheel off, showing the entirety of the suspension and with big arrows point out the different parts.

Between the S-Bar and the U-bar!!! :icon_rofl:

Haha, smartass :thefinger:

Yeah so i thought t-bar trucks had coil springs as well, like my expedition did.

I've seen bars like that which are actually just a brace for the A-arms.

Which is why I'd prolly circle it in red in paint, then send it to him.
