ok here it goes i have a 1990 ranger 4.0l 4x4 auto, i put an engine out of a 96 in it i had to swap upper intake, engine harnes, and pullies on to the 96 off my old engine now i did this swap in arizona you know dry heat, never gave me any problems after the swap till i moved back to montana and its cold so heres what it does, i let it sit overnight and go out in the morning to fire her up and it will crank and crank and crank untill it usualy runs the battery dead but times when it does start it will crank an crank all the while it doesnt sound like its even trying to catch and all of a sudden it will backfire so loud it sounds like a damn 12 gauge goin off and a few more revoulutions after that and it fires right up and runs perfect no problems and as long as i dont let it sit for more than 5 hours or so it starts up fine but still cranks a little longer than it should! now i have tried just about everthing and talked to alot of people who all tell me to do what i have already done heres the list.....ect,tps,iac,cps,plugs,wires,iat,coil pack, it has 40 psi fuel press and it holds that all night. and now the things i havent replaced the ignition module in front of the batt on the core support, engine harness, mass air, o2, and being as it was a used engine i bought in az it didnt have a block heater on it.... so i just need a few ideas because im runnin out sorry i know it a little long but i figured it would help give you an idea what its doing, if you could help me out that would be awsome thanks!
We used a block heater on a Courrier in AZ... up in the mountains. It wasn't Montana cold but we saw mid teens quite a bit and the heater made it easier to start in the morning.
yeah im not sure if its going to work but like last night it was -5 and the wind was blowin hard needless to say the danger didnt start so im gunna try the block heater see if it works!
