I have an 87 ranger that is having a lot of major issues. The biggest issue right now is that it is stalling out. When I try to start the truck it takes a few tries. Normally it doesnt start on the first few tries. Then when it does start it will die a few times until it finally can run without me hitting the gas. But when it does run it runs really rough. Then the issue is when I hit the gas. When I intially push the pedal it dies off (the rpms fall and it sometimes kills the truck.) So far I have replace the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel presure regulator, spark plugs, spark plug wires, throttle position sensor, exhaust from the headers back, and some other various parts. So I have a few questions.

1. If anyone has had the problem that I am describing and how they fixed it.
2. (This may be my problem) It is a CA truck so it has all the extra smog control additions. When I replaced the headers they didn't have the port for the hot air return to the trottle body. Would this be causing the issues I have and if so, where can I buy the correct headers?

Another issue is that my insturment cluster lights are malfuntioning. The only one that turns on when I start the truck is the seat belt light. I replaced all the bulbs and the fuse and they still dont work.

Any help with these issues would be very appreciated.

sounds like your TFI module for your start stall issue. otherwise know as an igniton module. on your truck it should be located on your distributor

It could be the O2 sensor circuit not working. Check that the Orange wire from the wiring harness to the distributor, is fastened to the engine to ground that reference wire. It should be bolted to the back of the passenger side head or on an exhaust manifold (header) bolt.

You will have to deal with the EGR valve eventually, but I don't think that is your main problem.
