I have a question about 2008 ford ranger several in fact.

I what is the RPM suppose to idle at when you first turn over the engine? Is there varible amount on this?

I rencently had service work done and I am now getting 250 kms to a 72 liter tank of gas opposed to the previous 750kms to 900kms I was averaging. What could cause this drastic change? I haven't changed where I buy my fuel nor my driving habits.

When I put my ranger into drive sometimes it seems to stick then jerk into gear is this common?

I have issues with my signal lights not working but when I go to a dealership to get it checked they never can reproduce this, is this common? Is it just the switch?

My engines RPM will reach 4000 RPM at 120kms/hour before it shifts into O/D is this normal?

All of these questions I have and concerns have been addressed at a Ford dealership as I am still under warranty which is soon to expire. They tell me on all these accounts they can't reproduce any of these scenarios I have outlined. I am not mechanically inclined and don't know if there lieing to me or not. I would greatly appreciate as much help and incite into this situation.

I also apologize in advance if I posted in the wrong forum for this subject matter. Abit flusttered and frustrated and worried about my lil truck dieing on me. . ..

For the idle question (trying to go off memory here) mine idles at around 800?

For the gas millage I have a hard time seeing how you got 750+ kms. The best I've gotten which was all highway was 600 to a tank. 250 does seem a little low, I'd change the fuel filter if you haven't, clean the MAF sensor, and tire pressure I just did these and noticed a little bit better millage. I'm assuming since you're saying kms you're in Canada, I always find my millage sucks in the winter (get about 400ish kms to a tank mostly highway).

As for the rest of the questions, their out of my knowledge but someone well have the answers for you.

What engine do you have. Need more information about the truck itself.

But:

Most should idle around 1000R for the first few seconds and then drop to between 750 to 800. A 4-cyl might be a hair higher.

If you have an auto-tragic transmission your rough engagement could be normal depending on how cold it is out. Especially if it's only on the first start of the day. It could also be an indication that the fluid is low.

I can't help with your fuel economy questions for two reasons:

1) You didn't list the kind of service work.

2) As an American, and not a CTTB one, the units of measure that you gave are pretty meaningless to me.

The turn signal thing probably is a switch issue, especially if none of them work and the 4-way flashers do the same. There were problems with and a recall on some of those switches. The recall I am thinking of may not apply to your truck so don't go down there hollering about it. The first thing that any dealership service writer will think is "This guy is nuts and gonna be a pain in my butt" if you go down there saying "Some guy on the interwebz who says he is a Ford tech says there is a recall on my truck".

4000 RPM seems high for a shift point and may point to further transmission issues related to your harsh engagement.

Your best bet to is to schedule an appointment when you have a little bit of time, take the truck down, and ask to take someone, shop foreman, senior tech, or the transmission guy, for a ride to show them what is going on. Issues are always easier for us to find and fix properly when the owner of the vehicle can demonstrate them for us. A lot of times people will drop their car off, never talk to anyone but the desk, and leave only giving a vague concern. I'll go look at it, find something miniscule, or even worse normal, that I wouldn't have noticed if they hadn't said "it makes noise" or some other equally undescriptive concern, and then not be willing to admit that I found anything because I don't want to waste time on a snipe hunt.

~should go up to 1500, then 1000 and then about 800rpm

~ helps to know whats serviced. not sure how your getting 750 to a tank, my ranger is doin good at 450 to a tank.

When I put my ranger into drive sometimes it seems to stick then jerk into gear is this common?

~mine does it, rarely. Not sure a cause, but i havent had any issues yet.

I have issues with my signal lights not working but when I go to a dealership to get it checked they never can reproduce this, is this common? Is it just the switch?

~i have had one stop working and the magicly start working. check the wires in the light socket.

My engines RPM will reach 4000 RPM at 120kms/hour before it shifts into O/D is this normal?

~no thats not normal at all, mine shift at 72 kmh and 2200 rpm

~go there, grab a tech and you drive it and show him. shop foreman even. or take it to another ford dealer. check your tranny fluid, sounds low to me.
Everything you just mentioned can be directly linked to your transmission. sounds like its slipping. did you get a trans flush recently?
