hello to all, i have a 1994 ford ranger xlt with the 4.0 v6. i rencently did a full tune-up and my truck is throwing codes. i keep getting these codes.....

#172
Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen (HEGO) bank #1 "LEAN"

#176
Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen (HEGO) bank #2 "LEAN"

Can anyone help? i replace the o2 sensors and everything. it spits and sputters and it sounds like its got a huge cam in it when it idles lol. ALSO I AM GETTING 11.6 MPG!!! yes i did say 11.6. any help would be much appreciated!!!

Did you clean the MAF? And always reset the computer when cleaning or replacing sensors.

i just installed a new MAF around a month ago. my truck had been doing the same thing its doing now but when i replace the MAF the first time, my truck ran fine. now it runs like S**T

Did you reset the EEC? The EEC still has the values from the old MAF stored in the EEC. Reset the EEC and drive it 15-20 miles then pull the new codes and post them here.

Double check to make sure you have the spark plugs wires on right.Even if you know there right double check and look in the book assume nothing.

EEC you mean the computer right?? if so i have already done that. same codes.

how do i do that? just fallow each line??

With engine running, follow each hose checking for cracks or splits, rotten areas, especially ends of hoses. Brake booster hose, PCV hose are 2 that are bad about leaking. Spray carb cleaner around gaskets of the intakes, even on hoses. Where there is a leak, the rpm will change.

well now i got another problem.... i cant find ANY diagrams of the vacuum layout for my truck. i did notice that their is a resivouir right by the main vacuum box. it is all rusted and in really bad shape. could this possible be it? i went around to some vacuum lines and sprayed wd-40 and nothing. i watched for bubbling and everything. any thoughts??

hmm. i havent found anything major. i did find a few slightly dryrotted endinds but nothing to series. any more thoughts anyone? i also have a fairly good exhaust leak roight after the o2 sencers. could that be giving the sencors a bad feed????
