hello, im new here and im lookn for some help! i bought a 95 ranger xlt 4x4 about 5 months ago, and the t-case is making alot of noise. sounds like a dry bearing noise. i jacked the rear end up and put on jack stands then put it in gear at idle. when i got under there i put my hand on the t-case and the tranny and then the rear end. the t-case was makeing the noise. so i checked the fluid level and it seemed good but it smelled like gear oil. so i drained it and put auto tranny fluid in it like it states in the manual. i set the truck back down and drove it and the noise was gone. i was so happy! so then i drove to the store and came back out and started home and the noise came back! now im pissed!! ive been thinkn about going to pick a part and getn a different t-case but i would like to know what u guys think. any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You should change your profile to include what part of the country you live in.
Then maybe a local can help you out.
Is the xfer case electric or manual?
, auto transmission?
what hubs do you have?
front drive shaft installed?

the t-case is electric but i would like to have manual but i dont know if it will fit or not. there is a guy on craigs list that is selling a 1354 manual case for 40 bucks! but i do have a manual tranny with the stock auto loc hubs and the front drive shaft is installed. i have also tried removing the rear drive shaft and let it idle while i was under the truck and it still makes the noise (growling noise).

double check the tech library here on TRS to be sure, but i believe you should be fine with the swap. lots of guys do it just because the manuals are more dependable with fewer things to break down. there should be many threads here, did you do a search? again, i tihk you'll be fine with the manual swap. and if they have the manual hubs, i'd go for them as well.
good luck and welcome to TRS.

a 1354 is a direct bolt on. the only thing is make sure you get the shift linkage! it can be done in your driveway in about 2 hours tops. have a friend help you to get the old one out and the new one up so it can be bolted in easily

i did this myself and it was the best thing i have ever done.
keep the old transfer case around in case you need a part from it. almost all the parts inside are interchangeable.

the guy on craigs list sent me some pics of the transfer case and it doesnt look right. maybe because its a manual but it looks like it has a yolk rear out put and mine has a flanged out put. and the front looks like it sticks out farther than mine. i hate to buy it and it not work! what should i do?? he said it came out of a 87 ranger. some other forums said that only a 90-96 1354 will work?

'87 will be a 1350. You need a 1354 from a '90-'97 truck ('90-'94 will require you swap the shifter motor from your original case onto it... That is unless you get a manual case, then no motor obviously).

ok thanks alot for that info!! i was suppose to go pick it up earlier but i had doubts so i didnt go. so good thing i didnt! i think i will just go to the pick a part and get one. u guys r good help!!
