I need a sub.

That's correct. You'll need one set to run from the radio to the bass remote, then another set from the bass remote to the amplifier.

I have never used that particular bass remote before, but the reviews seem to be okay.

I also noticed that your particular head unit has a switchable "Rear/Subwoofer" Preamp output. You would have a little bit of control with that, but not as much as with this separate bass remote.

I wouldn't mind getting an alpine type s, but it needs a min volume of .65^3 ft. I'm confined to about .5^3 ft. How much airspace is in each chamber?

build a ported box dood.
I've got one in my truck and it sounds AMAZING. I've got the 2000 tiny cab too.

Just make sure your box is tuned appropriately (the hole is the right size for what u want).

NIFman- I might get the remote a little later but for the first setup.

gnarly- I don't want to take out the jack because I'll have nowhere else to put it. So I'm just working with a sealed box. 18" W, 10.5" H, 6" TD, and 8" BD. However, the top part is going to be angles up to fit that little cardboard slant. So the 6" top part will be angled up. Two inches on the seat side if that makes sense. Though I'm considering making the sub face the back of the cab wall. So, I don't think I'll have enough airspace for the Type S. I'll probably go with the shallow pioneer. Unless you convince me otherwise.

what?? dude, just ghetto rig it. this doesn't have to be a ported-sealed-bandpass box with any crazy amount of engineering.
just drill an appropriately sized hole in the side of your cabinet and put a cap in it to smooth the airflow.

No way is it going to be a band-pass thing lol. And that design sounds way more complicated than it is. ahaha. oops.

Care to put up any pictures of what you mean?

Gah! Now I'm leaning towards the alpine type s...

NIFman- Do you know how much your sub's total excursion would be? I think I'm going to have my sub fire towards the back of the cab and I don't want it hitting the back wall.

If you are limited on space, I wouldn't build a ported box. They require more space than a sealed box. You can't just "drill a hole" in the side of a cabinet and "put a cap in to smooth air flow". The port needs to be a specific length and diameter. Plus, if you are seriously looking at the Type S, then it would need a minimum of 1 cu. ft. of volume for a ported box.

The X(max) of the "Alpine SWS-1043D" is 12.8mm, so pretty much a half an inch. This is the 4-ohm DVC sub, which would allow you to run it in a 2-ohm load.

My subs are downward-facing, and I haven't had any problems. It's definitely tight though.

Again, no ported box. Just a modified truck box. Would you suggest facing them towards the back of the cab? I'd probably have to sound deaden the back then too...

If you can face them towards the back without any problems, then that's what I would do. Sound deadening material would help out, just make sure to apply it correctly. There are many kinds of material out there, and I'm sure they all work about the same. I used Dynamat Extreme, and it was pretty easy to apply. There's cheaper stuff, but I had some left over from another install I did a few years back.

Anybody else have any suggestions on sound deadening material???

Have you looked at the rockford fosgate p3LS12 or P3LS12 enclosure, i have the 12 in my truck and it pounds way good with a 200 watt amp! haha! just a thought, you should check it out! It also has the smallest mounting depth ive ever seen for a truck box, The top depth is 3.25 inches and the bottom depth is 5.25 so its a really small box!

I've heard the P3's get loud but not very accurately. My truck also has that stupid lip thing in the back of the cab. The height of my box really cant' be taller than 11". Unless I make it the box so the sub fires towards the back wall.

I have my setup firing into the rear of the cab, used to cargo mesh screw locations to make a nice solid connection. Dampening the rear is pretty easy enough to do. Make sure you have enough clearance for the woofer to do its thing, 2" was plenty for mine. Good luck.
