I learned something...the hard way...

I run it in my sno-fiter "pics n my album"

year round its a 79 250 with a 73 grand marquis 460 been doin it for 20+ years with no probs :icon_bounceblue:but to each his own.:icon_thumby:The "BRANGER" uses it also.

Mark, the pcv issue sounds like potentially good news for the internals of your motor. For your carb base gasket I like Felpro part# 3157. They call it rubber fiber. It works well and I have reused gaskets made from it on some occasions. You can probably stop that pin from leaking without re-doing the rest of your timing belt, you think?

Thanks for the part number...I will check that out...

I tried tightening the peg with a wrench but couldn't get a good grip on it due to the angle...and the spring arm is in the way so I can't get a socket on it...removing the timing belt and tensioner shouldn't be a problem...I've done the timing so many times on this engine that it's pretty straight forward...my concern is the alternator bracket that I was using to pry the tensioner back with had some play in it...and I realized it was only aluminum so not a good thing to be putting that much stress on...I tightened it down but decided to try another approach since I don't have the proper tool to do it right...

To each their own, yes. What I know is based largely on theory, however I regard no knowledge more highly than that which is proven by firsthand experience.
Mark, I hear you on the timing belt. I have had mine apart so many times I could about do it with my eyes closed by now. Well, I'm sure you'll get it sorted easy enough.

I was too busy the last couple of days to take the timing belt off and now it's raining...and supposed to rain for a couple of days...but will try to get at it...have to fix that and see if there is another leak somewhere...

The smoke has cleaned up a bit for now but I think it's going to need work soon...if the smog police see me with a trail of blue smoke I will be on their radar...and that is not a good thing...

Problem solved...without removing the timing belt...

I was perturbed that I couldn't get a wrench on the peg nut at the base so I got out my brake line wrench and it just happened to be the right size...well, I had to guess actually because the closure on the brake line wrench wouldn't go over the peg...but it was between 3/8 and 7/16 so I figured it must be a size 10 mm nut...bingo...had to spend another $9 on a 10/11 mm open end wrench but I can use it in my business so...

It was actually very easy to tighten it up...hopefully it won't leak any more...and I figured out why I might have left it out about 5 turns...so the back cover would clear it...that holds the plastic markers for the timing of the cam...

But now it looks like it is in the correct position (the cam timing markers) so I'm going to have to take the belt off anyway because I think I set it around 5 o'clock but the marker is now closer to 5:30...dang...might be why it's been too much on the high end and the bottom end is sluggish...but I figured that I set it up that way since these engines like the higher end anyway...
