1996 Explorer Sport, got it dirt cheap to fix it and resell. first problem was a bad fuel pump, i dropped the tank and pulled the pump but in the process, i broke something else. not sure what it is but its a little black plastic box that sits on top of the fuel tank and plugs into the same harness.

btw, the truck is a 4.0, auto. electronic 4wd, power everything. 3.73 l/s rear. other than needing a fuel pump, it needs rear shackles and needs cleaned out badly. any info on the mystery broken part would be a plus. probably some emissions something or other, anybody know where i can get one?

Fuel tank pressure sensor.

nice pick up. I did something similar with an 03 sport 2wd; I bought it for 4000 with 66k on it, put a battery in it and sold it for 6500 :)

Fuel tank pressure sensor.

thanks, thats what i figured. im sure it will throw a code if i leave it how it is, what will it do if i unplug it? it's only there to check the tank and fuel filler for leaks, right? any idea on availability and/or price?

It will throw a code if its not there.

You know really sucks? I just threw one away a few weeks ago.

oh i've googled... a lot. looks like ebay is the cheapest place to get one. all the regular auto parts places dont even list them. maybe ill put up a wtb here and see what happens. thanks for the help.

anybody wanna take a stab at what this thing is worth? runs and drives fine, tires are okay, but not great. brakes and steering feel fine (rotors need turned but ill do that) trans shifts fine. exhaust is loud, probably an egr leak. CEL is on, shows P0401 (insufficient egr flow) brand new fuel pump and tank strap, fuel filter, plugs, radiator (not done yet but will be this week) well equipped interior, power windows, locks, seats, keyless entry, auto-dim mirror. the interior has been used like a truck bed, apparently hauling supplies and material for remodeling houses. the trim in the back is all scratched up (but is all there) and the headliner is trashed, i may just pull it out. it was filthy when i got it, i spent a while with a vacuum and some windex, it looks 100x better but is still pretty dirty/trashed. outside, rockers are rotted out, big dent behind the passengers side door. all the glass is good except for the windshield which has a chip that spiderwebbed on the passengers side at the top. like i posted earlier, its a 4.0 auto, 4x4, 4 door sport. sharp looking truck, just pretty beat up. perfect for a winter beater and/or work truck. im hoping to get 1200 out of it, plan on listing it for 1400. ive got a friend that wants it but doesnt think its worth that, i may sell to him for like a grand just so i dont have to worry about listing it online or anything. too high, too low or just right??

I think your price is pretty good. You might be able to get a few hundred more out of it. I would list it for $1,700 but every area is different. How much do you have into it including the trucks purchase? If you made a decent profit to give it to your friend for $1000 then I'd do that.
