i have this same issue

What's the history of the vehicle, have you had it a long or short time.

Are you losing coolant with no obvious leak?

What does the coolant in the rad or overflow look like?
Recently changed or dirty/discolored.

Is there any overheating or bubbles in overflow once engine gets to operating temp?

What is an LIG?

Yes Lower intake gasket. coolant is fresh from just switching in the motor a few thousand km's ago. Bought the motor off a friend and It was obvious that either the heads had been rebuilt or replaced, as they were clean and the freeze plugs were replaced. Put it in my vehicle and as preventative maintenance I chose to replace the Lower Intake gasket(and I was also chasing a possible vacuum leak). other then the fact that my engine idles at 1500 ant first start up and after 5 minutes goes down to 1000rpm the truck runs like a dream!!

Nobody has ever seen anything like this on their vehicle before though hey?

No, never seen similar.

I would clean it off and see what comes back.

Warm idle should be closer to 700, you still chasing the vacuum leak?

Yeah, still chasing the vacuum leak. Going to be buying a vacuum gauge this weekend to do a test

Bottle of scotch and a big cigar make for a good smoke test on vacuum lines :)

hahaha, good point might just have to buy a cigar this weekend too lol. I went out this morning to get a picture that shows the actual leak on my truck. looks to be a leaky freeze plug. let me know what you see in the picture. I

this is definitely a coolant leak, happens all the time on the boats I work on with our closed loop cooling systems. super slow weeping leak, baking on the engine block or at a connection evaporates and leaves behind what's left of the glycerin. (yellow sludge)

from the picture it looks like its leaking from higher than the freeze plugs, looks up near the exhaust manifold at the head gasket.. maybe from there. you can test there for saturation with a small butane/propane torch. just heat it up, if a white /yellow crust begins to appear that's where the leak is. this will also dry anything water/oil out of the cast iron. then you can drive it and should be able to see any leak. hope this helps. ive chased many coolant leaks.

'Zactly identical. 1500 rpm start with a slow down to about 900 rpm. as a warm idle. Other than that, the Rat runs great so I haven't bothered to investigate. Maybe they all do that. It is an old Ford after all. I feel lucky that it runs as well as it does. :D

Well cleaned up the area where it was leaking and it seems that the leak is coming form the headgasket like you said. I am going to drive it for a bit and see what happens. I just did a compression test a couple weeks ago and it revealed that I have 145 in all cylinders. Vehicle drives quite well and I dont have any performance issues.
