alrite i havent been able to post anything good about any of my trucks cuz i have no money to do anything cuz everything messin up my 88 b2 is way outta timing my 87 ranger is outta timing and my 99 ranger that i still owe 5 grand on is messin up. i dnt no wats rong but it feels like its slipping somewhere. wen you first start out drivin it it feels like somethings stuck on it and has no power at all and wen you catch your speed up its slips i dnt if its the clutch tranny or rear end plz help me im getin frustrated

That's not necessarily bad luck...that's lack of wampum which causes lakawanna...I've been there myself...just fix one thing on one truck and then find out something is needed on another...it's a vicious cycle, but better than a bicycle...

You might try running the 88 BII head on into the 87 Ranger and maybe the timing will sort itself out...j/k...

The timing isn't difficult to correct...but did you change the belts on either one of them recently? It doesn't cost anything to try to adjust the timing...unless the belt breaks...

i bought the b2 noing it was messed up but i bought the ranger drove it a couple times and it knocked itself outta timing idk im not really worried bout them as much as i am my 99 which is my dd and still owe 5 gs on

Well, you might try checking the parking brake cable...if that is sticking it can cause sluggishness...and check the fluid levels on the transmission and T-case if applicable...

Is this an automatic or manual, and is this the 3.0 or 4.0? It's listed as a 3.0 but just checking...and once you have that info, maybe post into the proper engine forum for some help...or go to the section on 4x4s...

You might get a good response in this forum, but sometimes the gurus don't hang around in here so they may not see the post...

3.0 5 spd manual i jst checked the tcase and tranny fluids about a week ago and that was before this happened

To start, try to fix the 99 Ranger first.

Being a manual transmission, there should be no felt slipping (if there is, thats not good).
Start checking these first:
Proper clutch operation, try stalling the engine by gently releasing the clutch without giving any gas. If the engine stalls, the clutch is locking up (good thing). Also check inside the bellhousing for any fluid leaking. The slave cylinder is know to go out and cause havoc (clutch not releasing or slipping when soaked with fluid).

Check to make sure the vacuum hubs are disengaging. It could be that you are feeling the extra rotational mass from the front wheels. Lift the front tires in the air, engine running, 2wd mode, Neutral gear, manually spin the tires. The CV joint should not move along with the tire and/or the opposite tire should not spin. Also check the 4wd system. Engage the 4wd with the front tire in the air, engine running, tranny in Neutral and spin the front tire manually. Opposite side tire should spin.

Check the parking brake cable. Make sure its loose enough not to drag the rear brakes. But not so loose that it doesn't work either. Pedal should go about half way down before engaging, but not to the floor.

Usually, you will see fluid dripping if it's bad enough, but there should also be a rubber inspection plug near the bottom on the driver's side of the transmission/bell housing...this will be about the size of a deck of cards and can be easily pried off...you will need a flashlight to see up into the housing usually and if it looks wet then your slave may be leaking...

There is also a bleeder screw on the inlet to the connector for the master line...if you need to try bleeding the clutch then that is where it happens....but I wouldn't try that until you've checked the items mentioned by Learjet...

If it can jump out of timing you may have cam and/or follower problems. my 2.3 was constanly having issues with power and speed it kept jumping timing, finally on my way to work one of the followers fell out in the #4 piston and it turned into a 3 cylinder Briggs and Stratton. I was able to get it home pulled cam out found this: (nice flat lobes)

wow man thats bad it needs an engine over haul any way so if it jumps again after i get it reset i will look into that it is currently 180 degrees out and it jumped itself and before it jumped i had no power in 4th

Yep mine was the exact same couldn't keep it at speed on the highway. If it was windy it would have aeen faster to walk to work.
