So I've always had an idea of an articulating 4wd truck. We used to have a 4wd articulating fork lift that we used and it was very nimble and the hydraulic articulation made it effortless to shimmy big 45' 5th wheels around inside a building. I just thought it would be a one of a kind build for sure but would also have a lot more capabilities than a regular truck. Other than forklifts being slow, why hasn't anyone converted one of these into a trail rig or rock crawler?? Here is a pic of our old tow motor. Even if this was scaled down to the size of a side by side it would be pretty impressive. Any thoughts or have I just lost my mind even more than normal?

The ones I have driven were hydraulic drive. Could hardly go up much of a hill and free wheel going down.

For some stupid reason I was told to deliver a pallet of brick with one when I worked at a hardwarestore when I was in highschool. It was terrifying.

Wheel loaders are articulated, the fastest loader is a modified Volvo L60G that can do 75mph... So speed isn’t a factor.
I would think the added weight and complicated system would be the biggest problems.

Log skidders are pretty knarly:

I thought I read about a build somewhere a few years ago where the truck was articulated like that. It’s pretty complex.

Doesn't unimog have a articulating frame truck?

But if you just wanna climb over crap...
