i initially thought it was bad gas so i put fuel cleaner in it and after a day it ran smooth then it started again but its only when it idles and it hits about 3k rpm that it does it i have gone crazy trying to find it but everything seems to be tight. i changed the clutch on it about 2 months ago could something have come lose and to make it do that? 2003 ford ranger 4.0

Might be a misfire. Get it checked at a dealership. Ask for a Mode 6 check for misfires and a relative compression check. Those years around there blew head gaskets out and it would start showing up as a slight miss that didn't always set off the engine light.

i dropped it off today i will see what the outcome is tomorrow hopefully. i hope its not a head gasket. it was just weird because i had just done the clutch then this happened

maybe an x ray would help? ive heard of people passing out at party's and complained of this in the morning.
