Damn strange, but I guess this happens a lot.

A Killdeer (bird) made a nest in my gravel driveway and laid two eggs in it. I noticed this bird constantly running around the driveway and Vanessa said something about it last night.

Today (Saturday) I went down to check the mail and was looking closely at the driveway and noticed a nest. At first glance I thought it was just rocks but when I looked closer I noticed two of the rocks were smooth and egg shaped.

I don't know how they've been lucky enough for me to not run them over. Their about 10 feet behind my F150 and just off to the center of the driveway.

i also have one that layed eggs in my barn driveway.. i doubt it will last much longer :nopityA: as 33" tires and eggs don't exactly mix. a few years ago one made a nest and layed eggs in our paved driveway. if you ask me, they are quite annoying and scare the S$#! out of me when i come home from work at 2am and almost step on one.

Is the nest right in the driveway area where you drive and park your cars?

Yep.

I didn't know what kind of bird it was so I did a search for "bird nest driveway" and came up with this:

http://www.birdwatching.com/stories/killdeer-how_to_help.html

That's exactly what kind of bird it is and what the eggs look like.

I'll probably mark it some how so I won't run them over.

They are damn annoying birds though. They make a very obnoxious noise.

Ya, they can startle you at night when you walk up on one and they take off flying making all that racket.

I've seen them in Ontario too...didn't know they were killdeers though...thought they were sandpipers...almost ran over a few of their nests...

Learn something nude everyday...

Cool.

I've found a finch's nest in the Chevy (right behind the driver's side headlight), complete with 6 Jordan Almond sized eggs. But Mommy didn't like 70 MPH winds and abandoned it.

had one of those in the lot at my dads work last year, luckily the thing was smart enough to make the nest off to the side so it didn't get run over.

Every year Sparrows build a nest in the top of my propane tank. Every year after the eggs hatch, a snake gets the hatchlings. I was wondering what was happening to them, then one day I saw the snake crawling up the copper tube that goes from the tank to the house. shady

those are killdeer eggs the birds are annoying as hell around here they never shut up day or night we have plenty of them

My cat sleeps in the rafters in the barn and watched a pair of birds build a nest in a box of broken lockouts on a high shelf. The cat watched all spring while they laid their eggs, while the eggs hatched, while they fed their little chicks. Then, one day, I walked in the barn and there was absolute carnage--little pieces of baby birds all over. The parents were outraged, flying around crazily. They died one by one when they couldn't keep away from the nest.
