I Hate Ford, I would buy this in a heartbeat!

It would be worth it to go to Mexico and get a wreck just for the drivetrain swap. I'd love to have a mini powerstroke under my hood :D

Saw neighbor's new Ranger this morning. Is definitely a full frame vehicle. Much larger than my B4000 and if you didn't know any better you would never know it is diesel.

Like you said adsm... F150 competition. Ford wants to hold onto that "best selling truck" title. They wont do anything to take that title away from themselves.

Although, they could call it a F100 and roll it into the F-series line, and keep the title.

It would be pointless to have another truck that competes directly with a truck already here. They would probably sell about the same number of trucks total with the F-100 and F-150 as they would with just an F-150 so why bother?

Three things keep it away, two from Ford are quite understandable really. 1 it will compete well against existing top sellers the F150 & against the F250 diesel 2 would probably be priced less then those trucks but some what expensive to make leading to lower profits 3 NA greenies HATE diesel with a irrational passion.

As to declining sales for the Ranger stats show it outsells ALL the trucks Nissan sell in NA put together . Plus what do you expect when you are trying to sell 2002 Rangers in in 2012 ? I mean really they have done jack shit to freshen or re vamp the platform for the last 10 years, no wonder sales are declining, Ford is making it happen. You have seen what the analysts say about Ranger buyers haven't you? Fleets wanting a economical stripped down truck ( no profit ) people who would be " better served in a Focus or transit connect make up the bulk of Range buyers according to Ford. And the rest of us really want to be in a small F150 ! I call shenanigans!!

On the bright side gmc still makes a small truck with good engine packages

yea that truck is the 3rd most expensive vehicle in america to maintain.
right behind a bmw x5, and cadillac CTS.
no thanks id rather keep away from that abortion. they never revamped the ranger because they are trying to maintain the f150 as the best selling truck in america. if they made the ranger as awesome as it could be it would probably outsell the f150. they dont want to break a 28 - something year streak.

However unlike the rbv line the mid and mini gmc/chevy line shares engine packages. Which combined with the interchangeability of gmc/chev drivetrains from almost year makes it a better platform to mod.

I like my ranger so don't think I'm ford bashing. Some people just forget the other options that are out there.

And for the record I would buy a diesel mini truck if made available to the US.
