i had to steal my own truck today

i had to hotwire my truck one day... the ignition fell apart. oh well. it happens.

but come on? you're so lazy you don't even carry a key????

If you refuse to carry a key, hide one in the truck somewhere.

It's even easier than that. These are the easiest trucks in the world to steal, I can pick the door and ignition on my truck with scrap metal in under 30 seconds. That's without using the antenna trick and no my truck does not have any mechanical defects.

i rigged my ignition some time ago, got a extra key cut and hacked off the head of it, drilled a small hole near the cut for retrival if i ever needed to and pushed the headless key into the ignition, it looks from all outside appearances like theres no key, i just jump in, grab the switch and go, no more looking for the right key, or forgetting the key somewhere. i never lock it so thats not a issue, pulled the relay for the power locks so that switch doesnt accidently get bumped on the way out. been this way since the day i brought it home, did it to the wife's taurus too. going to find away around the p.a.t.s. in the blazer so it can be rigged. with old junk like mine, i dont need to worry about theft, just the little bastards that like to knife tires on occasion. thinking about filling them with propane, just incase they come around again and they happen to be smokers. it would be so worth it!

If anyone looked in my window and the cup holder, they'd think I just left my keys sitting in it.

I leave the keys to my 88 in the 87.

I know this doesn't have anything to do with the thread, but at one point I had two 91 Explorers that had the same cut key. Shortly after getting the 2nd one, I got into it and drove for a few miles. Then I thought "how the hell did I get in this thing and start it"?

Good job.

after i broke the little stud on the end of the tumbler trying to replace it in my buddies 80-something bronco we just said F**K keys and just used the rod on top of the column,

my 88 f-150, my brother got it from a friend of his for a bottle of rum, he got it with keys, but never needed them as the igniton was broken, it was rusty and crappy, so the doors were never locked, when i moved to town, my brother had just lost his keys for it, so now he HAD to just turn the whole thing, one day while at the grocery store, the tumblers fell out and now the ignition was locked, "shit" we both thought... luckly we were next to a pawn shop, so in we went, bought a crescent wrench and a square shaft flat head, and snapped the lock, however everything was still in tact, despite all of the random parts that fell out of the keyhole... we were so happy!

a few months later he gives me the truck (no rum) and i drive it (again, with no keys, but everything still looked fine) and the ignition, which had been acting up from time to time, wouldn't start the truck, so from here on out, i would turn the ignition to on, then pop the hood and cross the 2 terminals on the solenoid to turn the starter over... success! i had a running truck!

after about 2 weeks of popping my hood every time i wanted to start my truck, i wired up a button under my dash that would put 12v to the signal post on the solenoid. this was great because now no one could start my truck as the button was quite well hidden!

well, now i lived in the worst area of town, and the night before i left town for a snowboarding trip, someone broke into my truck... well, they opened the unlocked door... stuck a screw driver into the ignition and twisted as hard as they could... they ended up destroying my ignition, and making it no longer have tabs to grab on to... of course, with the solenoid not having the stock power to it, even if he had keys and the ignition was brand new, he wouldn't be starting the truck! so, for the next couple months, i drove it with a screwdriver or butter knife, which ever i had on hand... sometimes a coin... then came the day i sold this truck (yes i actually sold it!) i had been starting it with an allen key that just happened to fit in the slot quite well, so what i did was covered the allan key in 2 part marine epoxy, and jammed it in the hole... 24 hours later, i had a new tab sticking out of the side of a busted ignition... about 24 hours after that guy came and looked at it, gave me $400 and i haven't seen the truck since!
