1997 4.0 4wd ranger. So I replaced the gaskets on my upper intake manifold, took me a little while, stripped a stud and replaced it with a bolt instead. Hope thats not the reason, so after reinstalling everything and cleaning almost all parts I started it and it idled fine, I let it run for about five minutes just to warm up and as soon as I got in and touched the gas I felt what seemed like a miss. I checked all my connections everything seemed fine, but still had a noticeable hiccup and soon developed even at idle. Driving around the block was a struggle and was ended quickly because of the intense miss. So I also hear a small whistle, I assumed this was another vacuum leak but upon spraying all connections with carb cleaner I did not see anything. Any help would be appreciated. If noone has any ideas I guess Im just starting with fuel filter and plug wires. I checked my firing order, it was all fine. And plugs were done around 7k ago. Hoping its something relatively easy because after burning half a day replacing parts I now am ready to set fire to my truck.

Did you unplug any injector connectors while you had it apart? I accidentally bumped one, it was barely making a connection so the problem would come and go.

agree been there done that:icon_thumby:

check your air intake if there is a hole after the maf it will cause it because its getting to much air and not enough gas this just happened to me

defiantly chase the whistle sound and spray the upper and lower intake sealing surfaces, sounds like an oring has slipped on reassembly.

I've had the same problem before on 4.2 F-150. I had a vacuum leak originally and it was throwing lean bank 1 and 2 codes. I found the leak with carb cleaner, it was the plenum gaskets. I replaced them and followed the torque sequences. I had a worse leak. It ran like crap. It sounded like a miss.. I ended up checking around everywhere again with carb cleaner. I found nothing. The next day I went out and looked more. One of the ports on the plenum was leaking. I ended up pulling it all back apart and using gray RTV as well as the gaskets and I torqued 5 pounds more then required. The problem was resolved. Sometimes you just have to fight with these things. You obviously know what to look for. You have a better chance of finding it then us guys behind keyboards.

My only question is.
No codes at all?
Do you have a OBII reader that shows sensor out puts?
