I got screwed by Patriot Buick Chevrolet GMC in Ardmore, Ok

What I don't get is, if it had a temp registration it should be good to go. Must be some finer point because the timing seems just wrong.
When I got my used one the 10-day temp registration was good past that because as long as you had an appointment at DMV you could keep driving on that. Because of 'demic and all.

I think this was a private towing company patrolling a private lot. Not the city.

as it was so clearly explained to me by the 911 operator when my daughter's car was towed: dude, you're screwed

the local laws state that a contracted towing company can take a car off the premises for any reason, they do not have to prove it was improper, and aren't responsible for any damages.
it's a real racket, no way out of it.

I find that hard to believe. For one, they’re contracted to tow under specific conditions… as stated in the contact. And I’m pretty sure there needs to be a sign notifying the public. Of course no matter how righteous you are, It might take a $10,000 law suit to beat it… or a news station “sting.”

it was 3 weeks before Christmas, the ahem, driver, cough, bragged about taking 6 cars from that exact spot that night.
there was the usual small sign, 10 "x 12" with the number to call for towed vehicles.
911 was very clear, the local ordinance allowed towing with no chance for recourse.

maybe Jim can review the rental contract for grace periods, or the time limit to notify them of a new vehicle.

The towing company has a license plate reader. If they scan a plate that's not in the database they tow it.

My temp tag has a big as dare across it, which small registration numbers down in the corner.

It's bullshit that it got towed. I understand the rules and that it had to be registered. I told the towing company that I just replaced the vehicle that was registered with this one and wanted to get some kind of break on the towing bill. They just want their money. Don't understand how you justify $317 to tow a vehicle out of a parking space.

Unfortunately now I feel like I'm digging myself out of a hole just so I can start this project.

I'll get there. I guess for now I'm just adding to the Rangers story.

In the next couple of days I'll start a TRS-3 project thread and discuss my plans.

Sounds sort of like the position I was in with the utility trailer last year. I had to pay $300 some dollars to get it towed because my Premier AAA membership wouldn’t cover it.

I no longer have AAA.

There's no rhyme or reason to their reviews. I did find a 1 star review mixed with 5 stars reviews as if to drowned them out. Plus, there was a review posted 2 years ago and right below it one from a week ago.

I did use the sort button and started with the most recent, 2 hours ago, down to a week and did not see your review @Jim Oaks

Maybe the General Manager that signed most of the reviews is waiting to contact you.

I'd call the tow company and advise them that they just bought a Ranger for $40k since they illegally towed it...doesn't matter if its got plates or not a temp tag says its in fact registered. No way I'd pay them $300+ for taking a vehicle they had no business touching, and how'd the tow company "damage" the front bumper during their illegal tow?

Also, looks like the dealership deleted your review...they love to do stuff like this when someone leaves a negative review catching them in a lie or other illegal shenanigan's. Not a fan of dealerships...and given you were over-charged for the vehicle I'd make a point to tell them they owe you a replacement bumper for that damage they sold to you, or they can buy the truck back.

It was towed from an apartment complex, so it's not about law but apartment policy on private property. It may have been a jerk move, but I don't see any reason to conclude that it was illegal.
