i got a question and i looked on the forum

my question is can u convert a 5 speed tranny to an auto ? i was told that i had to change the torque convertor and maybe my drive shaft... my ranger is an 86 2.9 v6 4x4 with the lovey a4ld auto and the 5 speed is out of an 90s ranger 2.3 2wd ... any advise would be helpful

i am not exactly sure what you are asking, it kinda contradicts itself. you want to swap a 5 speed for a auto, or a auto for a 5 speed?

im sry... no ummm im gettin a 5 speed tranny from my dads friend ... his son said i can hook that up to my ranger and use it as a auto

well, you cant use a 5 speed for a automatic. you can swap them out in place of each other just fine tho. be sure you get the pedal set, hydraulic lines, bell housing and a few other things. also, you might want to repost you question elsewhere such as the transmission section. you will find a lot more folks to read your question there instead of in the introductions section. and welcome to trs BTW!!!

Yeah a 5 speed is a totally different beast then an auto. You can swap out the auto for a stick shift but it woun't shift itself. And i don't believe the 2.3 trans is going to work for your truck either... bellhousing patterns are different. but if it does then you need. the Pedal set, Slave cylinder and the lines that run down to the transmission, a flywheel/clutch/pressure plate from a 2.8L, 2.9L or 4.0L v6 engine.

Actually the transmission won't work period... unless you just want a 2wd? Because a 2wd transmission cant connect to the t case.
