Since I've installed my alpine cde-102 headunit this last February, my radio hasn't worked. Tonight I wanted to get to the bottom of what was wrong. I found out that the best-buy idiots that crimped my headunit's wiring with the adapter did not crimp the "Power antenna lead" to anything. Is it suppose to be connected with any other wires? I think so. I got the wiring adapter from best buy. It's a metra IBR-WHFD3. I can't find the wiring chart that tells me which wire is what anywhere online.

So, A) is the Power Antenna Lead suppose to be connected to anything? If so,
B) Can someone tell me which color of wire it's suppose to be connected to?
C) None of the above... What am I suppose to do?

Power antenna lead usually goes to the power antenna :icon_rofl::icon_rofl::icon_rofl:
since rangers don't have power antenna then it's left disconnected or if you have an aftermarket amp, the power antenna wire can be used to turn on the amp.

Okay, if the ranger doesn't have a power antenna then how do I get my radio to work again? Any ideas?

And bestbuy only crimped the wiring. Didn't install the rest.

Dumb question...but is the antenna plugged in all the way to the back of the headunit? They're notorious for coming loose and not showing it.

is it both am and fm? bad antenna connection.

Wasn't 100% sure what a power antenna thing would do... I'm not that old :icon_rofl:

Yeah. Nether will pick up anything even when I put in my factory stereo. So maybe I need a new antenna wire running from my headunit to my antenna?

Best Buy isn't the best place to get audio and/or security systems installed. Does the headunit even turn on at all?

The antenna lead from the radio gets hooked up to the blue or blue/white on the metra harness...Also, depending on some vehicles, you may not have a good enough ground through the factory harness. Run you a good ground to the chassis (dash frame is a good spot), after that, check that you have power to both the memory wire (12+ all time) and the 12+ ignition wire (12+ when key is on). You may have blown a fuse. After you check these and you have power and ground, it's likely a faulty head unit

The headunit works perfectly, except the radio/tuner part. I don't think it would be the headunit because the factory headunit also does not pick up any stations.

You didn't mention that....You may have a bad antenna wire..As mentione above make sure the antenna is plugged all the way in the HU and also check to make sure it does not fit loosely in the HU, as it can slide out as well as make poor contact :icon_thumby:

It fits snuggly in the alpine headunit... Idk what I'm going to do. Probably just going to get a new antenna and antenna wire.

If you would have said that the stock headunit didn't pick up the radio either, then we all could have told you that it's the antenna or antenna cable. Power of deduction...if it didn't work on the first one, and then was tried with another one, it's obvious what the problem is. Replace them.

Either go the junk yard and pull one out of another ranger, or go through the LMC catalogue...I'm pretty sure they have a new replacement.

Just for the record I did say that... Maybe it wasn't clear to all of you but it was to me :icon_twisted:. Lol. I think I'll just find a pull apart and pick up an antenna there. Never would've thought of that... Thanks to everyone for the help.

No problem, let us know if you get if fixed :icon_thumby:
