i dont like body lifts but i found a decent deal

well i just got my last paycheck from my summer job i quit 4 months ago... so i have some extra cash right now, trying to call the guy to see if he still has it.

just bought it, $40. Im going to install it tomorrow after school, the only problem right now i think is the top radiator hose is already cut short so its gonna need a new one. I dont need a fuel neck extension right? the kit still had the tape and papers in it, all the bolts are in the bags just making sure i have everything.

oh and how much does this affect the cooling? its been running hot lately still trying to figure out what it is, i know the radiator seeps out the sides, but not all the time? guess it could be the water pump, hope not.

Nope, shouldn't need a filler neck extension. It shouldn't affect cooling either. Check your thermostat and also check to see if the radiator is plugged with dirt in the front or maybe the clutch on your fan isn't fully engaging.

changed the t-stat, got a stock one too, 192F right? thats the one it had before. the fan is spinning at idle, seems fast. It only gets real hot when im going fast? its weird once it gets hot it never goes back down though until i shut it off for a while. Its like once it gets to operating temperature something fails and it goes way up, but never over heats just gets to about the "N" on the normal. I wish the gauge had numbers

Put a mechanical temp gauge in it. I did it to mine about 8 years ago when my gauge started acting up.

Instead of cuttin' up the fan shroud, just lower it down using a couple strips of sheetmetal or something (about 4" by whatever the radiator is wide) & some small machine screws. You'll maintain your cooling efficiency a lot better that way

i think the guage is accurate, i changed the sending unit few months ago. Got the lift on today, but ill have to lower the radiator like 4x4junkie said cause it almost overheated on me today.

it was stalling and lugging bad in 3rd gear, the check engine like would flicker on every time it did, the guage was reading max, right below the red line. Its really confusing me though, only when im moving and have the throttle open it heats up (really quick), but when i stop and let it idle it cools down. The top radiator hose is a bit pinched right now, im going to change it tomorrow. I dont get why it cools off when sitting but heats up when moving though. seems more like its the higher rpms rather than the speed. maybe the water pump?

edit: oh and whats the running temp supposed to be? my friend has a spare temp guage i can have, has numbers though

The pinched hose will make it heat up way worse than a cut or missing shroud. You can buy a mechanical gauge at parts store for $20 bucks... As far as cutting out, you may have pulled a ground off of something when lifting it...

Just the fan shroud, not the whole radiator. ;)

Watch it if it's overheating, that'll lead to a cracked 2.9L head in no time. Definitely get that radiator hose sorted out.

yeah the engine cutting out was just a ground that got ripped out, i replaced it with a longer batter cable. And my whole temp problem ended up being just the hose, it was leaking before, and when i put the lift on the leak combined with the kinking/streching made it worse. changed the hose and now it runs great.

ill try to get some pics of the lift tomorrow, my cameras been dead for a while needs new batterys

oh btw thanks guys

how did yall deal with the steering? I put the extension in but the shaft is at a higher angle now and its hard to turn.

this is the flex joint

this is the box input

Try a second gen steering shaft, it has a u joint at one end. I switched to one after the rag joint started to tear! Lookin good though, you're gonna love the extra space it gives you to work on stuff.

yeah, its going to make a motor swap way easier if i ever do one. where can i get a steering shaft from a second gen, is a junkyard the only option?

Junkyard, parts rig, Im sure you can buy replacements from napa too. I've actually heard the Aerostar shaft is even better because it has u-joints at both ends.

alright, thanks ill look for one cause the steering kinda sucks right now
