cooling systems are primarily pressurized to raise the boiling point of the coolant...but it does help to prevent cavitation.
he has already replaced the cap and says nothing has changed. even with air trapped in the system, he should still get plenty of pressure built up in the system after a 30 minute drive...he would just get air hissing out instead of coolant.
