Ok, so part 1 of hydrolocked explained my initial prob. and I went through and finished replacing head gaskets and cleaning heads and valves and pistons seemed to be fine... all travelled completely and without problem.... putting engine back together I then came to find out the fuel pressure regulator was faulty and was speuuuuuwing gas into #3 and #6 cylinders through the vacuum hose as I tried to initially refire.... soooo, basically engine locked up a couple times just trying to start as I narrowed my search for THAT problem..... soooo, fixed that issue and turned engine over and had some clacking going on.... which then something noticably broke as I tried to figure timing.... sooooo, compression check and #6 has none... screwdriver in spark port was able to actually push piston down.... suggestions? broken connecting rod? or maybe lucky and just a bearing cap? hmmmm

looks like to removed the oil pan is gonna require an act of God but suppose that is the first thing I can do.... Thinking though, if this is just a connecting rod issue, probably have to remove the crankshaft? which is probably gonna require me to remove engine? (buy used rod and pistons somewhere?) which then, maybe just remove engine to begin and then get to oil pan? or if it's possibly just the cap or securing bolt, maybe would pay to just inspect first?

and yes, I know maybe a good used engine at this point might be better.... but having spent $500 on the upper part so far, would be nice if possibly this is a repairable situation.... time isn't a problem as I have another vehicle and I can tinker on this as time allows.... of course, if rod is thrown or gone through engine, it's fubar?... keeping fingers crossed...

Brian you are beating a dead horse! Pull that engine and start looking for another one. Now you will have a working engine and also spare heads and attachments.. No matter what is going on in that bottom end it ain't gonna be good.
I think you knew from the start you should discard that engine and getcha nother one.

Wanna help me roll it into the river? :annoyed:

how about a remanufactured engine? hate to put the time on something I have no clue how it was treated before got to me.... 77k and $500 or new and $1700? I spent the time on this engine because I've had it since 27k & knew it was still in good shape... or so it seemed before a stoopid $35 fuel pressure regulator decided to trash it! :bawling:

yeah, thought about that... just need a short block... I'll take off the heads and intake as well as the other stuff and slip a reman- shortblock in there.... hopefully that will get me as good as new....

2 belt? you mean drive belts? because I believe it's a timing CHAIN not a belt... I'll just go with whatever they say is needed... upgrading like that might not make something else fit.... don't need more aggravation at this point... just would like to get going again eventually....

thanks for everyone's input... :-)

Since you think the engine is junk, and you're talking about swapping in a different engine, might as well take your engine out and go through it to see if it's salvageable first.

yea take it out and chk it out cause it will surprise you it will be surprising how it will be able to be machined and saved for new rings and such

well, yes, figured would take the oil pan off once engine is out and see what I find..... won't order anything until I get to that point at least.... finding a shortblock doesn't seem easy... most seem to like to sell long blocks.... found a reman short but then found a long about $200 more and no core charge so figure at this point, if I go that route, will get the long and just try to sell the newly machined and valve job heads.... hafta see what's broke in there first though I suppose and how much it costs and time involved in fixing if possible.... it will be a nice learning experience if anything :-)
