I lost a rod bearing in an old V8 about 60 miles out in the dessert.
Drove it out with that spark plug wire disconnected.

Beats throwing a rod and walking, lol.

I had a knock in one cylinder of a 302 when I was moving. Disconnected the plug wire and drove that truck from Casper WY to Albuquerque NM on 7 cylinders at highway speeds. When it was stripped down that cylinder measured out as .120 oversized. It's hard to say bad things about those old motors.

I ordered the 95 motor. Thinking now would be a good time for a 410 cam, anybody have experience with one? Worth $277 or no?

The rods in Cologne engines don't need to bend much to put the piston skirts into the crank counterweights...

A 2.9 will generally lock solid when the wrist pin bosses come into the crank counterweights... Please don't ask me how I know this...


On an Aerostar you can get the pan off with the engine in the chassis, (I've actually done so on an AWD Aerostar) but I'll call bullshit if anyone claims to be able to do heads in the chassis.. (without taking a sawsall to the firewall)

Chevy Astro van, I did a full crank and bearing swap with the motor still in 1 time as it was easier to fight that shit then to try and shoe horn that 4.3 out of that thing. That was by no means a fun project but it was doable.

Pulling the pan on a ranger with a 4.0 while still in the vehicle I would say anyone trying that would have to be smoking crack that cross member is straight in the way.
