now i know its strong just for being stock! i have the 2.3 4cyl with 8 spark!
reason i say it has the 8 spark is because you get better milage & more power since you get double the spark 1 on the intake 1 on the exsaust.

Well, the power gains from having two plugs per cylinder is, apparently, not...it just burns the fuel more effectively...

But the engines are generally very reliable and can be good on gas...so unless you're expecting the gas prices to stay as low as they are now you may consider dropping in a bigger engine...but you'd be better off to consider a turbo version of the 2.3...just in case gas prices go crazy...

I would say that mine has done pretty well, especially in mud holes and the woods, being what it is. I have yet to have any problems with it, however it only has 94k miles on it.

o ok! yes gas milage is great! was looking into just swaping out the headers & adding a turbo.
.

You have a factory header. As to the turbo - if you really want the extra power and can find the parts locally, it's a great swap. I'd consider it if the parts landed in my lap. In the meantime, 100hp is plenty for the truck to do everything I ask of it and 27mpg is hard to complain about.

yes i can get them localy there is a turbo shop in my area so its not hard to find! plus there a million salvageyards local who refurbish & resell ford turbos im sure a mustang turbo should bolt right up?
after i get the MANIFOLD this would buy brand new for api international
sorry called it the headers lol ment the manifold

What I am about to say is going to sound nit picky, but it's necessary. You really need to take an extra few seconds to read through what you're posting before clicking the 'Post' button. Try to create complete sentences with at least a reasonable amount of punctuation, so that the next person can understand what you're asking. To be honest, I have no idea what your last post is asking.

well its really not asking anything!
i do have a turbo/supercharger shop local that i can get it for a desent price!
when i get the manifold This i will buy from api international( this is a ware house for autoparts) a place that pep boys & others buy theres new quality parts from!
A mustang turbo should bolt right up!

i called the manifold headers! manifold is what i meant this is what a turbo bolts 2

the stock pistons will only stand up to about 5psi of boost, I think that's about 30hp, if you get the stock type forged pistons (8:1 compression ratio) they can stand up to a lot more, plus you can probably only go with about 3psi on the stock engine management system, and will probably need bigger injectors just to get that.

I'm with fastpackr, I did my turbo swap because the parts kind of "fell in my lap" as he said, surfed craigslist and found a donor engine for $500, freshened it up a bit (wish I went further, but like the old saying hindsight is 20/20), have about $1000 in it all said and done, that got me an extra 70 or so HP, we'll see how it does with injectors that actually work...

mine has 110k miles i've owned it since 89k... between that time i've lugged it everyday.. revved the PISS out of it drifting and abusing it... drove it home 10mi with no oil pressure... intentionally tried to blow it up, AND drive it 80 miles a day as a daily...

NO PROBLEMS, it won't die

The 2.3 is great. I put 200000kms on the first engine, only changed it cause I got myself a turboed 2.3 out of an old mustang. The turbo one is a bit more of everything, but if I hadn;t done the swap I would still be very happy. Be sure to change the oil regularly/filters and always put a bit of injector cleaner and your ranger with a four banger will bring you no anger.
