I am going to build my own shifter. I need to know the measurements for a hurst
shifter and the angle please.

Dunno. Just work it and play with it until it works like you want it to. Remove your current shifter and use that as a guide.

Are you building a short throw or just a new lever?

i would like to make a short throw. I was planning on using the old base and just remove the shaft and make a new one but make a short throw.

So your building a new housing to relocate the shift bushings/pivot point higher? You have access to a mill and lathe to do this project but cant take a few measurements with a pair of calipers?

I am not going to do all the leg work for you as far as handing over my dimensions, but...

Here is the shifter housing I made.

Started with this...3" diameter 3" tall chunk of aluminum

And I ended with this

It uses stock bushings, and the stock dowels. The smaller diameter part slips down where the original bushings were. Then original top plate and some longer bolts hold it all together

I ended up shorting the throw by around 32%. Which is roughly 2.5" shorter throw from 3 to 4.

I added 1.25" to the bottom of the shifter, which changed the ratio from 6.09:1 to 4.19:1

I cut the bottom portion of an older shifter off as close to ball as I could. I then marked out where I would need to cut my existing shifter off to make it 1.25" longer that it was originally by adding the portion I cut off the other one.

The stock shifter is 2.875" from the center of the pivot ball to the lower tip and the new shifter is 4.175".

Here is the housing with the lower bushing in and the original pins pressed in.

I also cut down some old pins to fill the stock holes

Im still rocking out the stock shifter on top, because I hate chrome.

Thanks man awesome info.

Does it matter what Grade of aluminum

I got mine through McMaster-Carr, just read the description they give to see what sounds best. I don't remember.
