I'm new here and dont know alot about auto and manual hubs I was wondering if there was a year were you didn't need a conversion kit. I'm not sure if it was possible to use hubs that came on a truck from the factory and swap them into a truck that has auto hubs. I heard that once the hubs start cliking than they are going bad and need to be replaced. some one told me that there is nothing but problems with the auto ford hubs and they are expensive to replace this is ona 93 ranger,

if you can find a truck with the manuals in a yard you can swap for factory. just need the hub and everything up to the bearing.

no you can use any year from 90 to 97 i think . you just need to make sure the donor vehicle has the d35 and not a 28 or a hybrid. to tell look under the front of your truck and count the bolts in the differential if you have 12 its a 28 and 10 is a 35 check this link for more info on how to tell

90-95rangers and 91-94 explorers.the96-97 rangers might work but the brakes are different so i dont know.you will need to buy the 4 prong hub tool to remove the adjusting nuts and install them tight enough so they don't back off.the parts to take are the c-clip,splined washer,2 round nuts with slots and washer with holes.make sure the first nut goes on with the pin facing out, snug it up and put on the washer with holes flipping it over if needed for best fit of the small pin.then install the top nut, torquing to about150lb/ft.install splined washer, clip and put on manual hubs.torque wheels to not over 110lb/ft or you can warp rotors.

good info rick...just 2 things:

96-97 rangers might work but the brakes are different so i dont know

the hubs are the same, they'll work.

then install the top nut, torquing to about150lb/ft

that torque spec is MUCH too low, the nuts will come loose. torque the outer nuts to no less then 220ft-lbs. some guys have even had problems with them coming loose torqued this far. i used locktite on mine :D

Hybrid Axle hubs will work. They only have a D28 carrier in a D35 axle. Everything else is D35 including the outer shafts and hubs.

I have a question , regarding the jeep hubs over the ranger ....what makes the jeep locking hub stronger ?
I have broken 1 hub a year for the last 3 years .
Glad Mile marker has a 1 year warranty , it has thus far cost me nothing , but every winter , I have to pray I make it out from the Mt.

So I gather this difference only applies to Warn hubs ,
And I see the comparison is to the Ford Auto hub .
How strong do you think the Ford Manual hubs are , I thought they were a Warn hub .
I am of course talking about the Dana 35 .
I get really nervous going up into deep mud or snow , and not knowing if I am going to break a hub .
So far I have always made it back , even in 2 wheel drive .
Thanks for letting me hijack this thread .

Ford or Warn, doesn't matter (Warn made them for Ford anyway).

The comparison is between a RBV hub and the Jeep hub.
