the left front won't spin, just makes a really loud clicking grinding noise

Auto or manual hubs? Sounds like bad automatic hubs to me. Does it do it if you put the truck in 2wd and backup.

no it don't and yes its automatic hubs, im buying warn manual locking hubs today

Should fix you up with the new manual hubs. By the way, I edited your original title, because all you had was a period.

Good idea on buying Warn manuals.

You will need to get a "hub conversion kit" which is realy only the spindle nuts and washer. You can usually get them from Autoparts stores or 4 wheel parts. Dont ask for the conversion kit, juts as for the spindle nut set, that'll save you some $$

If the axle is Dana 35, I'll buy all the old auto hub parts.
The Tech library seems to indicate that the 1988 Ranger has Dana 28.
I'm looking for 1996 Ranger auto hub parts.
Measure the axle ends when you get it apart.

just put a set of warn hubs in last week! they are very nice and won't break and it didn't even take me half the time that people were telling me it would take even when putting new wheel bearings in also!
