So i was hookin up my buddys sony in his 06 trailblazer...

i know its my buddies and i was doing him a favor!

There was already a clarion in there...

i spliced all the wires cause hes a little short on cash and did the color coat matchup's...

the problem i ran into is the clarion was not wired through the accesory 12v
the red wire was not used (ignition) to power the deck on...

and when i hooked up the red on the sony it wouldnt turn on...
so i did a constant putting the red and the yellow together....

could i get some help?

looked around and i found this for an 08 with basic stereo installed:

THE RADIO HARNESS DOES NOT PROVIDE A SWITCHED POWER SOURCE. RUN A WIRE TO THE FUSEBOX FOR SWITCHED POWER. THE ACCESSORY TURN-ON IS CONTROLLED BY THE CLASS 2 SERIAL NETWORK.

Thanks piston!
but im not entirely that savy... i understand some but not all...

So what does that mean i do?

And lemme add the clarion worked perfectly...
even though it didnt use the 12v accesory (ignition) wire it still did its job somehow... to where the sony doesnt... the only way i can get it on is to wire the yellow and red together!

was there a power antennae wire? if it does then id use that for swtiched 12v

alright i found a correct 2003 trailblazer diagram. the power antenna is a gray wire. try that

radio 12v-orange
ground - black/white
illumination - brown/white
power antenna - gray
lf speaker - tan/gray
rf speaker - lt. green/green
lr speaker - brown/yellow
rr speaker - lt. blue/blue

Hmmm none of those sound right at all

Yellow was power
red was accesory
purple and green were rears
white and gray i think were fronts
and orange was illuminations and dimmer!

they sell fuse adaptor at autozone that allow you to plug it in to a fuse and has a wire that splices out so that you can hook it up to the red on the headunit if you want to go that route just make sure that you put the fuse thing in a fuse that is only powered with the key on or in acc

but doesnt the power ant come as an output of the hu? i always thought it did but i'm not sure anymore

The new chevy vehicles need a special part to intergrate a new stereo to the vehicle. You don't need this part if you dont mind losing key in chime or headlight warning chimes cause they go thru the stereo and come out the left front door speaker. Run your red wire from the stereo over to the fusebox and hook it to the fuse for the wipers. This fuse goes hot with key on and has more than enough power to turn on the stereo and run the wipers. Make sure that you use a 10 amp fuse inline on the red wire close to where you hook up at the fuse box in order to prevent problems if the wire shorts out. If the wire shorts and there is no fuse inline the wire will burn!!

thats the headunit wiring, piston gave you the truck wiring diagram, what you would wire the stereo to.
