Got a 1988 ranger 4x4 stock factory lift 4" in special order front and rear
positrac. Me and the ford tech are in a dispute with the front end alignment.
The front tires are leaning out at the top [positive camber] so bad it looks
like I'm carrying a 1000lbs in the bed. I'm getting excessive wear on the outside
of the tires. It's not toe as it is not scrubbing the tires off. The ford tech said
this camber is correct and the tires should lean out like that. I understand it
needs to be positive but not that much! Anyone with any expertise on the
subject sure would be helpful. By the way this truck has never been wrecked
or modified.
 
the biggest factory lift any ranger ever came with would be a High Rider, and thats only a factory 2" lift, id like to see the build papers on this factory 4" lift truck.......that sounds like ur entire problem
 
I went outside and measured the lift block and you are right it is 2 inches.

spec--- is to ride height, determined at the bump point on the front. he sure as hell should not be looking to put pos caster in a lifted rig.


you want neg camber if anything.


take your truck to a place that knows what they are doing since it appears you cant align it yourself.

I own a Hy-Rider and it's def only realistically about 1 1/2. Mine NEVER leaned out at top. Going to need some adj. nuts to correct that. I lifted mine about 4 1/2 and moved lowert ball joints out 1" and useing 2 1/4 nuts it aligned fine.
 
They used bigger (taller) coils and a block between frame and radius arm mount.

i am aware exactly of the rig, just trying to find out what your block definition was.
 
i was more trying to ask, is it a hy rider with 4" coils on the 2" brackets??
 
If the tires are leaning out (or in) so far that you can see it with your eyes, then it's definitely bad. If this is the case, then you're going to wear the tires unevenly and cause handling problems.

Tell the Ford tech to go back to school. He obviously either doesn't know what he's talking about, or doesn't want to solve what is wrong with the truck. If this is happening at a dealership, then get his boss involved.
 
definitely contact his boss. and keep taking it higher til that dealership gets sorted out. You should absolutely no more than 1* positive camber, and thats if you cant get it aligned right due to some mechanical problem. Read the tech library and print up a few pages if you have to on alignment and take that too him. Tell him you dont want his opinion, he gets paid to set it up the way you tell him too.

I agree.

This guy is an idiot. Talk to his Supervisor, and point out your positive camber.
