How's it going, first truck 85 ranger

Hey my names Alburt I'm from la . I have my corolla so I figured I'd buy a desert toy. So I got a 85 v6 2wd single cab short bed ranger xl . It runs pretty great. I got it for 900 bucks. Already drove it out to a camp out 80 miles over a 3000ft hill in 100 degree weather and she did fine. My roommates been driving her to work 50 miles a way . So I figure she's worthy of putting money into to mess her up in the desert. This probly won't just happen over one night it's gonna be awhile of slowly buying and adding parts over time . So I was wondering. What are done of the first things I can add that will improve desert performance ? I'm not talking about hitting woops and all that right now just that will make ride better on some flat trails and help when I do hit some small bumps and rocks. And help handing . Over time I hope to build it into a nice offroad runner but I just wanna do things progressively over time. So let me know any help is greatly appreciated.

Check out the pre runner section on our forums. They may be a bit more extreme then you want but you may be able to get an idea for what you're after.
