I kind of held off on the intro until I had actually bought a Ranger. I did that today, so here goes.
First, my new (to me) Ranger: torch red 2007 Sport 4x4 auto. It's stock for now, with only 23,000 on the clock, I'll be a little careful not to void the warranty. It has a 3.73 open differential, which wouldn't have been my first choice, but I can't see losing $5 grand by driving a new one off the lot, so I'll give them a try. I won't be doing much heavy towing or hauling, so I can probably get along with the 3.73's, but I sure will miss the limited slip my Dodge 2500 had.
Now, a bit about me: I am a 54 year-old school teacher (middle school language arts at present). I love hot rods (the 30coupe monicker is for my Model A that is slowly becoming a hot rod...355 SBC, 350 auto, etc.). I am a traditional bowhunter, a fly fisherman (okay, any kind of fishing works), kayaker, camper, outdoor kind of guy. I have been married for 35 years to the same woman and don't see any need to change. I have three terrific children (two sons and a daughter), one grand daughter, and one of unknown gender on the way.
I have been driving 4x4's since about 1976. I've had one Jeep, three Dodges (two pickups and a Ramcharger), two Chevys (a K1500 and an S10 Blazer, and one GMC pickup. This is my first Ford truck. I am a bit nervous based on a bad experience with a Granada
and a worn out Ranger my son had (2.9L extended cab, long box, 4x2, POS). After much research on the web though, I have decided that the Ranger is the best small truck available...yes, even better than Toyota. Never been a Ford guy, never thought I would be a Ford guy, but I am kind of adjusting to it. I hope this truck turns me into one.
These are some pics of my truck. They are from the dealer's site. I haven't taken any of my own yet.
I hope to learn a lot here and will contribute what I can. I've been tinkering with cars since the flathead Fords, so I might be able to answer a few questions in addition to asking a great many.
Glad to be aboard!
