How would YOU solve this problem?

Hey guys. As a part of my front end swapping I need to make the stock hood release cable work with the swapped hood latch. I did this...cut a slit and put in a washer (as seen in picture) it works just fine. Except I need some way to secure the washer there and for the life of me I can't seem to solve this seemingly simple problem...I do have an arc welder...which is very tempting..but its thin body metal. I am pretty sure I would just burn thro and make a mess of things...I tried superglue (haha...I know) didn't work. What would you do in this situation to secure the washer?

It jiggles a little bit so I don't think JB Weld would work...too brittle. I am thinking maybe silicone it? the washer pushes against the metal so it takes all the force...I just need to keep the washer from falling out. Thanks

P.S. I know this should be simple but I cannot figure it out!

Just make a saddle that goes around the washer and screws into the metal part. Similar to the ones they use to attach water pipes to the ceiling.

maybe get a small "L" bracket and bolt/rivet it to the body. then drill a hole for that cable on the other side? but idk you might not have enough room its tough to tell from the pic...

3m epoxy... stuff holds anything.
or a little L bracket.. but i like my glue.. i don't know the actual name of it tho... i'll see if i can find some around here

found it... this is what it is.. but i doubt you'll be buying any. I HAD NO IDEA IT COSTS THIS MUCH, I GET IT FROM THE SHOP... lol

that's the one for fiberglass/SMC, but it'd work. they make different ones for metal and junk to.

Haha, thanks for the input guys...yeah no I am not looking at spending 108 bucks to secure one washer haha. Maybe I will just have to make a lil bracket to hold it ...gotta find some tin or something

Genius! And a real fast/good fix! Get one of those curved bracket-clamps at the hardware store that fits snugly over the washer & bolt it to the sheetmetal like he said!

I think a quick tack or two with a MIG welder would hold it in place and not burn a hole through. Arc welder would be a bit more tricky but doable.

Can you see the back side of the washer when it is installed? If so pull it out drill an 1/8 inch hole in it ,put it back in place and put a cotter pin in the hole.

That would work out pretty good...except the washer could still slip down...th
e slit doesn't have a bottom.

Its tempted to try to arc weld it...I wish I had a mig welder haha

JB Weld? I always thought that stuff was snake-oil until I actually tried using it. A couple of good fillets down the sides of the washer.

Ok round two. If i were doing it I would replace the washer with a piece of 1"x 1/8" flat bar 2 inches long ,bent 90 degrees .drill hole in one end for cable,drill 2 holes in other end for 2 bolts or pop rivets.
