Okay so I've posted a couple times about a problem I've continued to chase.
I get random hesitation, fuel smell if i get out off the truck after running for more than 20 mins, sometimes it loses ALL power and i have to let off the gas for a second then its normal, I get a miss at idle that doesnt change hot or cold, sometimes it pings but then 2 seconds later it won't. Sometimes it falls on its face after a shift, sometimes it won't.
First thing I did was a tune up because when i went to pull a plug the actual wire snapped in two...
so it got an oil change, plugs, wires, cap/rotor, fuel filter.
then the fuel pump died, so i replaced that with a new one.
then I was replacing the original vacuum lines and the FPR line smelt like gas so i put a different regulator on. ( this made a slight diffference)
Tested fuel pressure - good
Compression test - 148-152 good?
tps test - good
So in asking some of my mechanical buddies only one guy came up with a suggestion i havent tried, the map sensor. He says that one going bad can cause all those symptoms.
I dont have a CEL but half my dash lights are burnt out anyway.
88 xlt 2.3 5spd 2wd. I love my little truck but this problem makes me wanna set it on fire sometimes. Also the best MPG i've been able to get is about 17... and thats rounding up all the numbers so i feel better!
