How to tell 2.0 from 2.3

Im new to the whole Ranger scene and just trying to figure a few things out. First Im trying to figure out which Lima engine I have in my 84 Ranger XLT. As far as I can tell it's just one of the carb'd 2.x 4cyl's. I need to figure it out so i can order an oil pump and seals also just so I know lol

First up, unless you are changing pistons, it really doesn't matter since the 2.3 and 2.0 are essentially the same engine...the head gaskets are different, and the pistons/heads are usually different, but the oil pump and seals should be the same...

There are, as far as I know, two ways to check by the physical engine...neither of them are easy: remove the head and check the size of the piston...the 2.3 pistons are slightly bigger...the specs are in the sticky at the top of this forum; or remove the intake manifold...as far as I know the heads all were round port...

Short of that...does the ownership history not show the original engine specs?

or pull the casting numbers , one off the head in the spark plug wells.
on the block it is up by the HG surface on the exh side
