All, last month I spent a few weekends tearing apart my A/C and rebuilding it.

I have created a how to from that experience, if you would like to see what is involved, go here:

For the techs and people who do this for a living, if I have missed anything important or you have an easier method/ shortcut or other useful info, let me know.

Hope this helps to get your A/C going

Wow, awesome write-up, AJ!!! Freakin' A. Well done! :yahoo: :icon_thumby:

I hunted all summer for all that info, too. I found some snippets here & there, in dribs & drabs, watched lotsa Youtube videos, read Ford's FSM, searched TRS and such forums, etc, etc. It was so tedious to find this info. Why is it held so secret by A/C guys? Yet it is. Nobody has bothered to share it, until now.

Now, AJ, you've put it all in 1 place! Superb! Two months ago, I could've kissed you for it. Now, it's too late for me, but it's a great resource. For the next guys. And I'm sure I will need it again some day, when it's time to replace my compressor, cuz my brain will undoubtedly leak too.

Both our truck & car suffered from a plugged orifice tube, as it turned out. I fixed 'em both last month. My B4000 fix was here: http://imgur.com/a/xMUKH and the Lincoln Continental fix was here: http://imgur.com/a/tEdQg I still need to replace the accumulator in both vehicles (& add an inline filter, as adsm08 suggested), so your write-up will help me with that job.

I am so happy that you documented all this. Thanks! :icon_cheers:

Thanks Cvar. I had originally bought all of the parts and was planning on doing this fix last summer, but my summer repair project was replacing broken and rusted out spring hangers instead. Never did get around to finally doing it until last month.

I too looked around for a complete walk through and ended up only finding bits and peices.

Looks like you ended up with some same conclusions that I did. I missed your posts on this tho. I would get that accumulator dryer tho, as moisture in the system can cause acidic compounds to build up which does nothing to enhance the a/c's performance :)
