I am trying to replace the distributor pick-up on a 1990 2.9L. I have the distriubor out but cannot figure out how to remove the shaft to replace the pick-up. Helpful hints are welcome!

You need to drive out the roll pin that retains the drive gear then slide
the shaft up and out.

Beware, the shaft itself rides in bronze bushings and sometimes the varnish buildup
on the shaft causes the top bushing to come out of the aluminum distributor
housing, if that happens the distributor as an assembly is scrap.

So before trying too hard to get the shaft out soak everything thoroughly
with carb and choke cleaner (removes that goop PDQ)
