Can't quite see how to remove the knob to get at the switch. lost my back lights but got my turn signals and brakes courtesy lights out also except high beam indicator. any help woul be great 87 xlt ranger

I don't have an '87 Ranger anymore and it's been way too many years so I can't recall exactly what it was like but on both my '90 Ranger and '84 Bronco there was a small hole on the underside of the knob that would stick a small pointed object, such as a scratch awl, into while pulling on the knob. Hope that works for you!

There is a little button on the switch, reach behind and get touchy feely with it, Its spring loaded so push the button and then just pull the knob and shaft right out. If you dont disconnect your batt your lights will be on till you unplug the switch.

^That^.

Taking the knob out turns the lights on too, so I recommend either jaming the door ajar button or pulling the battery first. Otherwise you will have that stupid dinger going off in your ear the whole time.

Ok, maybe I was thinking of a different vechicle then. The worst part is, I just took my '90 Ranger dash apart to work behind it within the past couple months.

i've found that if you're carefull, you can push the knob back in after removal to push the switch into the 'off' position.it needs a little bit more of a push after that to reset the retainer.
