Hey, all,

New to the forum, and could use a little help!

How do you remove the brackets that the rear disc brake calipers mount to? Are they pressed on? can they be hammered off?

My backing plates are all bent up, and I want to replace them...The plates are off, but there is still some rivet left in the axle housing flange, and looks like I need to get that caliper bracket off so I can get the rivet end off!

Thanks for your help!

oh, this is an 8.8 rear, out of 96 explorer

Not sure if I follow you, you just want to remove the caliper bracket from the rotor shield?

If so, it should come right apart if you drill out the two small rivets holding them together.

Welcome to the forum

The caliper bracket/rotor shield assembly is held onto the axle by the 4 end-plate bolts. Remove those, and then hammer the assembly off. Usually it's stuck due to rust.

As Junkie said, the shield and bracket can be separated by drilling out the rivets holding them together.

yeah, evan, that's how simple i was hoping it was!

i got the riveted bracket off, but the metal bracket that the caliper attaches to is the booger...

i'll post a reply once i've knocked it off...

thanks!
