i have a code 87 primary fuel circuit fault. could this be caused by a leaking fuel pump?

it means some sort of issue on the hot side of the pump circuit. A leaking pump could cause that if it's causing a short. Drop the tank, check the wires going to it for damage or fraying check for key-on power to the pump, if those are both ok, check the pump and see if it runs.

well fuel pump was bad(diaphram shot) replaced fuel pump and pulled negative and still getting code 87. any ideas?

thanks B-F

my book says TCP is the temperature compensated acceleration pump I that is the thing on the front of the carb with the nipple pointing up that is run from the vacuum solenoid closest to the starter solenoidhttp://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/diagrams/1983vacuumhoseguide.jpg It is the blue vacuum line. it is the solenoid or a wire or connector what it does is turn the accererator pump off when not needed. see if you have power to it with the key on to both terminals if you only get power to one the solenoid is bad the computer provides ground to it when necessary so there should be power going thru it with the key on. They can be a bitch to pull the wire connector off it could be a bad connection also pull it off and look for corrosion. Another thing you can do is run your KOER test and hold a screwdriver on it and put your ear on the screwdriver and when the computer goes through all the solenoids you should hear it click. It is either a wire/connector the solenoid or the computer I am guessing the connector is corroded.

i went ahead and rebuilt the carb(dont think it needed it though) and discovered that the valve was bad, looks like the previous owner blocked it off by shoving a bb in it:icon_confused: rebuild on hold till i can find a new one.

go to the bone yard and take one off I believe I saw a couple of new ones on ebay a while back.
