:dunno:I just got a new diamond plate toolbox, and want some suggestions on how to mount my whip to it. Got a ball and spring mount. I know I'm supposed to get some kind of special mount because the antenna itself but am new to this. Any help? :dunno:

Communications section at the bottom of the forums, its where the Freqheads hang out, they will have better ideas. Me personally, I never liked the box mount. Either bumper mount or front rail of the bed for me. Whatever you do, with 8.5 ft, take a 2-3 ft piece of light rope (1/4") and tie it to the bumper with a piece of hook shaped 1"x3' flat steel. This way you can pull the antenna down and hook it to keep it bent while in the city, parking garages and stuff.

A 102" whip can generate some force at the mount when it gets goin, it may bend up the lid of your toolbox.

I've never mounted one on a truck yet, was going to mount one on my Ranger but couldn't bring myself to take a drill to my step bumper and just kept looking at different mount designs. My F-150 is probably going to get one mounted to the ladder rack.

My choptop sports one mounted to the spare tire carrier. And I have found a need to tie it down before on occation, so it would be a good idea to mount it where it can be bent down an tied up.

My Uncle had one of those cheaper toolboxes(the ones painted white, smooth steel with the two doors, the thing sits on the bed rails) the toolbox had a fixed center piece of steel that covered the two door hinges, he drilled a hole in the center and mounted it there.
