how big of a power inverter will i need to power a 1ph dual piston compressor?

look at the info plate on the motor and find out how much power it draws.... thats your answer.

I`m not sure you can produce the amps needed from a 12 volt dc. My compressor motor uses 16/7.5 amps 240/120 volts the inverter needs to push at least the lower number.

get a second battery... a really big, expensive, deep cycle one. get a dual battery charger system installed with your alternator. get a 4000 watt/surge, 2000 watt/continuous inverter. give it a shot.
just my $.02.
