How to determine if I have a factory tow package or aftermarket?

My credo
Why should I pay someone else to screw it up when I can screw it up myself for free?
Just wondering if the VIN can confirm this or if there's a visual clue? I have a receiver hitch that looks like every other later Ranger hitch and a 4-pin connector that just hangs loose, no plug receptacle. Was there additional engine/trans cooling provided that is visible? 8.8 w/ 4:10 open diff.

Thanks

My 03 has a trans cooler, but did not come with receiver hitch. The presence of a trans cooler in and of itself may not tell you anything. But yes the trans cooler is visible, just a little 10” square radiater on the left side.

The VIN can get you "As Built" data. That will break down the entire truck.

Know any dealer techs? They could run an OASIS and click on additional info, it'll list everything the truck was built with.

Aftermarket hitches tent to not hug the frame and the bumper. That is going to be the biggest clue without having a dealer look it up.

The factory tow package didn’t come with a receptacle.

I can’t say on the cooler. I have a manual and coolers don’t get installed on them.

Thanks dealer wouldn't run the OASIS report on the Ranger unless I had it in for service. Odd, because they ran it a few years ago on my Super Duty with no issues. I'll try to get the VIN/build info from Ford once I found where to look for it.

PM the vin number.
If you get it to me before midnight I can check it tonight before I leave work.

Check your PMs.

So.... Factory tow package or aftermarket???

Different attitude I guess, I used to run VIN's in OASIS for anyone who asked, even independent garages. I thought I worked in the SERVICE department.
