How to combat frame rust?

I though about media blasting the frame with one of those from harbor freight.

Can POR-15 be sanded and painted over..... like say the bottom portions of a body panel?

which one?

yes POR can be sanded and painted over. it must be sanded if it has cured otherwise the paint will not stick to it

my firewall must be blocking an image because I only see a sandblaster

soda will not take off rust it is for removing paint, in reality you would be better off getting a couple of different styles of knotted wire wheels and a 4.5" grinder blasting is messy and dangerous if you don't use proper media e.g. play sand

I've got to redo my 67 stang and it's got a lot of rust, so I'll be using some kind of blaster to get it off. I'm not doing it by hand! I'll use whatever it takes. Blasting has got to be safer and easier than a grinder or wire brush.

When I had my mustang I put it up on stands and draped sheets around it and proceeded to sandblast the under body with a cheap craftsman that hooked up to the air compressor. After getting it clean i coated it with some good ol' hurculiner, even with fans and a proper respirator I was sick as a dog the rest of the weekend, don't really recommend it....

Wait. Ford frames can't rust!! You must be making this up you Toyota lover!!!!

:D

well cleaning up an old mustang and cleaning up frame rails on the ranger are two different jobs, I just want to reiterate that you do not want to use play sand. use black beauty or glass bead do not cheap out, wear a respirator and face shield blasting requires lots of air so if you do not have one rent a big compressors, something along the lines of a tow behind that they would use with jack hammers.

Oh yeah, I already figured I would get a face shield and a respirator. I haven't figures the air yet. I was wondering if this would do it?

3 HP, 21 Gallon, 115 PSI Cast Iron Vertical Air Compressor

Blasting takes a lot of air, little compressors can get it done but it will take substantially longer. Blasters like that normally require around 6+cfm at 125psi that compressor might do 4cfm at 90 PSI meaning you will have to let it build up pressure, as a plus that is a cast iron compressor but still anything that is 110 is going to have a hard time keeping up with a blaster.

Gotcha, I just don't want to spend over 200 for a compressor. Oh and 01 4x4 ranger that's a pretty purple bungee you got on your truck! HAHAHA
